Why an impartial, non-judgmental review is so helpful
You get honest feedback that friends/family won't give you
Friends and family often say “It’s great!” - but that doesn’t help you grow. An impartial reviewer has no reason to sugarcoat, hype, or hold back. That clarity helps you see your music from a fresh perspective.
It helps you understand how your song lands on first listen
As the creator, you know every lyric, chord, and meaning behind your song. But an outside listener hears it cold - and their reaction shows you what’s really working, what’s confusing, or what might need more punch.
It separates your self-worth from your music
A non-judgemental review focuses on the song, not the person. That creates a safe space to hear constructive thoughts without feeling attacked or discouraged - essential for creative growth.
It gives you practical direction for improvement
Instead of vague praise or harsh criticism, a good review offers specific, neutral insight - like “the chorus could hit harder” or “the lyrics are strong but the mix buries them.” That kind of guidance gives you something to build on.

About Me
Hi, I’m Chris - the listener behind Review and Rate My Song.
I’m not a record label exec or a self-proclaimed music guru. I’m a writer who’s spent a lifetime obsessing over music - listening closely, reflecting deeply, and appreciating the art behind every track, from lo-fi bedroom demos to polished releases.
As a songwriter myself, I know how vulnerable it can feel to share your music. That’s why I created this service: to give artists a safe space to receive honest, constructive feedback and a clear star rating, without ego, bias, or gatekeeping.
Every song I review gets my full attention. I don’t use templates or bots. I take the time to listen, think, and write with care - combining the insight of a passionate music fan with the empathy of a fellow creator.
Whether you're after feedback to improve or a write-up to share on your socials, I’m here to support your journey.
If you’ve finished a song and want to know how it really lands - I’ll listen.
Example Review:
Song Title: “Running in the Rain”
Artist: Sam Blake
Genre: Acoustic / Indie Folk
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)
Review:
“Running in the Rain” is a gently haunting acoustic track that blends emotional storytelling with understated production. From the opening fingerpicking pattern to the final breath of reverb, there’s a sense of space that gives the vocals room to breathe - and that’s where the heart of the song lives.
Sam’s voice feels raw but intentional, with a tone that lands somewhere between Ben Howard and Gregory Alan Isakov. Lyrically, the song balances simplicity with subtle poetry - lines like “every step echoes the one I never took” stand out without trying too hard.
One suggestion: the chorus melody could lift a little more to provide contrast from the verse - as it stands, the track flows smoothly but risks becoming a touch repetitive after the second minute.
Overall, this is a strong piece of acoustic songwriting with real emotional pull. It sounds authentic, unforced, and worthy of repeat listens.
Please note: This is an example, sample review to show the kind of feedback you can expect.
